Reiki is an ancient healing technique dating back thousands of years that was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui a Japanese Buddhist in the late 1800’s. Rei means universal and Ki means life force. This life force energy is present in all living organisms and is all around us. Reiki works by balancing this life energy allowing your body to heal itself.
The healing works on a physical, emotional and spiritual level to clear any imbalances. Most people enter a deeply relaxed state while having a Reiki treatment, some even falling asleep. Whilst having a treatment it is normal to experience different sensations. These can be warmth, a tingling sensation or a cold sensation from the therapist’s hands. Some people feel nothing at all this does not mean that the Reiki is not working. Reiki practitioners are attuned by a Reiki Master and learn how to harness this energy and to direct it through themselves and into others.
Reiki can have a very calming effect and some people just have a treatment purely for relaxation even if they are feeling well. Most clients experience a profound sense of relaxation and many report an easing of a specific issue or ailment.
Animals can greatly benefit from Reiki as well as humans and will generally walk off when they have had enough.

Treatments usually last either 30 or 60 minutes and are carried out with the client fully clothed except for their shoes and are usually laying on a couch. The number of treatments needed depends on the specific issue and how deep rooted the problem is.
Reiki should be used as an addition to conventional medicine. It is not intended to be a substitute for medical care. You should always consult your GP first for ailments and pain of any sort.
